Contact UsThe Douro Valley is often considered as one of Europe’s most breath-takingly beautiful wine regions, and our three day/two night Essential Break provides the perfect introduction. Based at the award-winning Quinta Nova wine resort, guests will enjoy wine and port tasting on-site as well as in the famous riverside town of Pinhåo.
For those arriving in the Douro Valley by train, we will arrange for a driver to pick you up from Ferrão station and after checking in at the hotel, you will be taken on an introductory tour of the on-site winery, concluding with tastings of three of the estate’s wines (one white and two reds) in the panoramic tasting room. In the evening, a delicious four course wine tasting dinner will be served in the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant.
After breakfast on day two, you will be taken to Ferråo station and from here, take a short, scenic journey along the river to the world-renowned port-making town of Pinhåo. Train tickets cost less than 2 Euros per person and can be purchased at the station on the day. In Pinhåo, we will arrange for you to visit two premium wineries, who produce both DOC Douro wines and ports. At each estate, enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the wine-making facilities and cellars, and each tour will conclude with extensive tastings. At one of the estates, a gourmet picnic lunch of meats, cheeses and local delicacies with be served alongside a bottle of wine and a glass of port in a stunning location overlooking the picturesque Douro Valley. The wineries are located less than 15 minutes from the centre of Pinhão on foot. Take the train back at the end of the afternoon, in time for a relaxing final evening at Quinta Nova.
