Trip Summary

If there’s such a thing as a best time of the year to visit this charming region of France, it’s lavender season. Provence is renowned for its stunning fields of purple lavender, which are typically in bloom between mid-June and early-August every year. Our three and four day Wine and Lavender breaks based in Aix-en-Provence combine the local wine of the region with the opportunity to visit the lavender fields and discover some of the most emblematic sights of the region with an expert guide. If you opt for the four-day break, you’ll get some extra time to explore the delightful Aix-en-Provence and visit a second winery in the Cotes d’Aix-en-Provence.

Upon arrival in Aix-en-Provence, check into your hotel in the city centre, which is known for its culture, art, history, and of course its laid-back atmosphere. The 4* Grand Hotel Roi Rene is the perfect choice, located walking distance from shops, restaurants and bars, and complete with an outdoor swimming pool for you to enjoy those sunny days.  After checking in, you’ll have some free time to relax before dinner at a lively restaurant in town.

Following breakfast on day two, you will meet your guide at a central departure point in Aix-en-Provence for a half-day guided and transported Provence lavender tour in the picturesque Valensole Plateau. There will be a maximum of 8 guests on the tour. Your tour may vary slightly depending on the blooming season, but you can expect plenty of time to admire (and photograph!) the stunning lavender fields, as well as the chance to visit a local lavender producer to learn about the cultivation, distillation and properties of lavender production. Following the tour, your guide will drop you off in central Aix-en-Provence, where you’ll have free time for lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll be taken by a pre-paid and pre-booked taxi out into the vineyards to visit a local, family-run winery in the Cotes d’Aix-en-Provence. Take some time to discover how these famous rosé wines are made and enjoy a tasting of some of their wines. This tour may be as part of a small group. Your taxi will then return you to your hotel, and the rest of the day will be free for you to spend as you please.

If you opt for the four-day break, you will have some free time to enjoy Aix-en-Provence in the morning, and we’d be pleased to suggest additional activities for you as you wish. You will then be taken in a pre-booked and pre-paid taxi to a second winery in the Cotes d’Aix-en-Provence. First, you will delight in a wonderful three-course lunch at the estate’s restaurant, which focuses on fresh produce. Drinks are not included as part of the package and can be ordered and paid for locally on the day. Following your lunch, you’ll enjoy an informative guided tour of the estate’s winery, concluding with a tasting of few of their wines. The rest of the day will then be free for you to spend as you please in the beautiful city of Aix-en-Provence, before checking out on day four.
