Castello di Fonterutoli has been the heart and soul of the Marchesi Mazzei history and wine-production for nearly 600 years. Owned by the family since 1435, the estate still retains its original form surrounded by 650 hectares of wood, vineyards, olive groves, and a cluster of authentic Tuscan buildings, telling the story of a family deeply rooted in Tuscan tradition. Just down the hillside sits the winery in an ocean of vineyards: combining state-of-the-art modern winemaking practices with centuries-old history. This is a unique place where past and present unite.

Location

The estate is located in rural Chianti, in a tiny hamlet which consists mainly of the winery, Osteria and guest accommodation buildings. Guests will particularly enjoy wandering through the cobbled streets and admiring the beautiful vineyard views and surrounding countryside, as well as the traditional Tuscan buildings. Quaint and peaceful, the Castello di Fonterutoli guarantees a truly authentic stay in the heart of Chianti, and is a scenic drive from Tuscany’s most desirable destinations, such as Florence, 40 minutes north and Siena, just 15 minutes south. The stunning villages of San Gimignano, Volterra, and Montalcino are not to be missed, as well as the pretty Tuscan villages of Castellina in Chianti and Radda in Chianti, just a short drive away.
