This comprehensive package invites you to discover two of Portugal’s most enchanting wine regions in one seamless journey. You’ll begin with the bold, complex flavours of the Douro before transitioning to the bright, zesty charm of Vinho Verde, and your Grape Escape will be based at two of our favourite wine hotels for a truly unique experience.
The Douro Valley is famed for its breathtaking terraced vineyards, dramatic river vistas, and its production of full-bodied DOC Douro wines and the world’s finest Ports. Just an hour to the northwest lies the Vinho Verde region, offering a refreshing contrast with rolling emerald hills, cooling Atlantic breezes, and crisp, aromatic white wines. Crafted from native grape varieties such as Loureiro, Alvarinho, Arinto, Avesso, Azal, and Trajadura, these wines capture the fresh, lively spirit of the region.
This unique itinerary allows you to immerse yourself in the traditions, flavours, and landscapes of both regions, beginning in the UNESCO World Heritage Douro Valley, where you will explore its celebrated vineyards and taste its legendary wines, before heading into the lush Vinho Verde countryside to enjoy its vibrant, refreshing styles.
For those arriving in the Douro Valley by train, we will arrange for a driver to collect you from Pinhão station. After checking in at your first hotel, Quinta de la Rosa, you will be taken on an introductory tour of the on-site winery, concluding with tastings of three of the estate’s wines. In the evening, a delicious three-course wine-tasting dinner will be served in the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant.
After breakfast on day two, you will make your way on foot to your first visit (the hotel would be delighted to arrange a taxi for you, if you prefer). We will arrange for you to visit two premium wineries, both producing DOC Douro wines and Ports. At each estate, enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the winemaking facilities and cellars, with extensive tastings. At one of the wineries, a gourmet picnic lunch of meats, cheeses, and local delicacies will be served alongside a bottle of wine and a glass of Port in a stunning location overlooking the Douro Valley. The evening will be free to enjoy at your own pace.
After a leisurely breakfast on day three, check out of your hotel. Your private English-speaking driver will pick you up and take you to an additional Douro winery for a visit, tour, and tasting.
From here, your journey continues into the lush landscapes of the Vinho Verde region, where you will begin your introduction to this vibrant wine area with a visit to Quinta de Santa Teresa. Overlooking beautiful rolling hills, this family-owned estate is one of the very few certified organic wineries for Vinho Verde. Your visit will start with a lunch showcasing the flavours of the region, paired with wines that highlight the diversity of the local grapes. After lunch, explore the estate’s gardens before touring the winery and learning more about their sustainable, organic production methods.
Following your visit, your driver will take you to check in to the stunning Monverde Wine Experience Hotel, nestled in the heart of the Quinta da Lixa vineyards.
Your Vinho Verde wine tour begins with a guided visit around the hotel’s own winery, where you’ll explore the atmospheric cellars and learn what makes these lively, refreshing wines so distinctive. In the evening, take a seat in the hotel’s panoramic restaurant for a three-course dinner showcasing the region’s flavours, each course paired with the estate’s wines.
After a leisurely breakfast the next morning, your private English-speaking driver will collect you ready for a day of discovery in the Vinho Verde region.
Your first stop will be Quinta da Raza. This is an award-winning estate set among gently rolling vineyards. Here, you’ll be guided from the vines to the winemaking facilities, which will conclude with a tasting of their elegant wines. Following such an insightful visit the experience continues with a picnic lunch in a private vineyard setting, where traditional Portuguese food will be served while you admire your beautiful surroundings!
In the afternoon, visit a nearby winery for a hands-on blending experience. Taste the Vinho Verde region’s key grape varieties before creating and bottling your own bespoke wine blend, complete with a personalised label to take home as a lasting memento.
Return to Monverde in the early evening where the rest of the night is yours to relax, enjoy the hotel’s facilities, or dine at a local restaurant.
On your final morning, after a leisurely breakfast check out of your hotel.
