Ribera del Duero is famous for its “Golden Triangle”, seventy miles of vineyards that stretch intermittently along the River Duero, producing superb wines that challenge the more famous wines of Rioja and our three day/two night Essential Break provides the perfect introduction. You will be based at Convento las Claras, in the town of Peñafiel, famed for being the “cradle” of Ribera del Duero, home to many of the most prestigious wineries of the region and overlooked by the medieval Peñafiel castle.
After checking in at the hotel on the first day, you will take a short stroll to the centre of Peñafiel, to one of the most prestigious and architecturally intriguing wineries in the region, where the historic past blends seamlessly with the contemporary. Here you will enjoy a tour of the two wineries, the oldest that extends through the mountain and the newest, designed by Richard Rogers. After the tour, you will have a guided tasting of three wines, including a Reserva, a fascinating introduction to the wines of the Ribera. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy as you wish.
On day two, your English-speaking driver/guide will meet you at your hotel for a full day tour as part of a small group (maximum eight people). During the course of the day, your guide will regale you with tales and anecdotes of the history of the Ribera del Duero and its vineyards, introducing you to the particularities of the region. Your day will see you enjoy all that the area has to offer, stopping off to enjoy tours and tastings in a variety of wineries, from the most modern to the most tradtional, family run wineries, perhaps passing by a biodynamic bodega on the way. The cuisine of Valladolid is truly delicious and you will experience this for yourselves, eating lunch at one of the wineries, where you will enjoy, amongst other delights, the local culinary speciality of lechazo asado, a roasted dish of suckling lamb. After such an enlightening, fun day your guide will drop you off at your hotel where the evening is yours to relax.

There are direct flights to Madrid from London Gatwick, London Stansted, London Luton, Liverpool, Manchester and Edinburgh. Grape Escapes is ATOL registered, number 10831 and we would be happy to book your flights at cost, however a booking fee of £25 per person applies.
The airport is situated around two hours’ drive from the hotel. We can arrange private airport transfers for you if required. Please contact us for prices, which are dependent on the number of passengers. Alternatively, we can book a high-speed train for you, which takes 56 minutes to reach the town of Valladolid, from where we can organise a transfer to your hotel.
