The Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is often considered as one of Europe’s most breathtakingly beautiful wine regions, and our four day/three night Exclusive Break should be on your bucket list! Based at the award-winning Quinta Nova wine resort, guests will enjoy wine and port tasting on-site as well as in the famous riverside town of Pinhåo.
For those arriving in Porto by plane or train, we will arrange for a driver to pick you up and whisk you away to your hotel. You will embark on a scenic drive through Estrada Nacional 222, which is considered one of the most beautiful routes in the world, with either woodland or vineyard views. After checking in at the hotel, you will be taken on an introductory tour of the on-site winery, concluding with tastings of three of the estate’s wines (one white and two reds) in the panoramic tasting room. In the evening, a delicious four course wine tasting dinner will be served in the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant.
After breakfast on day two, you will be met at the hotel by a luxury chauffeured vehicle, which will accompany you throughout the day on a private basis. We will arrange for you to visit two premium wineries, who produce both DOC Douro wines and ports. At each estate, enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the wine-making facilities and cellars, and each tour will conclude with extensive tastings. At one of the estates, a traditional three course lunch will be served alongside a bottle of wine and a glass of port in a stunning location overlooking the picturesque Douro Valley. If you do manage to tear yourself away from such a relaxing lunchtime, you will not be disappointed! Your driver awaits, to take you to your next stop – one of the first Quinta’s to open to the public in the Douro valley region. During the visit you will taste five wines including the ten year old Tawny.
On day three, after a leisurely breakfast, you will be taken to your private boat. We hope you have your deck shoes with you, as today is all about being on the River Douro. You will see the Valley from an entirely different perspective, admiring the steep terraced slopes, you will arrive in style for your tour and tasting at a renowned Quinta. Here you will enjoy a very informative tour, taking in the cellars and the vineyards. The tour will culminate with a leisurely three course lunch paired with a selection of the estate’s wines.
At the end of this visit, and after such a fabulous day, your car will be waiting for you, to take you back to your hotel, where you have all you need to further relax and unwind. We would be delighted to recommend some of our favourite restaurants in the area and to book you a table at one of these if you wish to enjoy a dinner out on your final evening in the Douro.
