Soak up the Southern French sunshine in one of the Provence’s prettiest towns, Aix-en-Provence, on our luxurious three and four day Hidden Gem breaks, based at the charming 5* Hotel le Pigonnet. The artist Paul Cézanne loved walking in the hotel’s gardens with his easel and paint, and after checking in to your preferred room grade on the first day of your trip, the afternoon and evening will be free to settle in and enjoy your beautiful surroundings.
After breakfast on day two, meet your specialist driver/guide at a central departure point in Aix-en-Provence for a full day guided tour as part of a small group (maximum eight guests). Not only is Aix-en-Provence home to some of the world’s greatest rosés (and some superb reds and whites too), the area is also famous for the beautiful Mont Saint Victoire, a feature of many of the Cézanne’s masterpieces. As well as having plenty of time to admire the spectacular scenery, you will also be welcomed at two local wineries for full tours and tastings. You will have free time for lunch today, and your guide will be very pleased to recommend a suitable restaurant depending on how hungry you are feeling on the day.
The afternoon will be spent visiting some of the region’s most breath-taking villages (don’t forget your camera!) As well as lovely Loumarin, famous for its Renaissance castle, you will also visit the stunning hilltop village of Bonnieux, Roussillon, which is famous for its unique red coloured ochre cliffs and Gordes, a medieval village made entirely from “lauze,” the local stone
After being taken back to Aix-en-Provence, you will have time to relax and freshen up before a delicious four course dinner is served in the hotel’s elegant gastronomic restaurant. Drinks have not been included as part of the package, and can be ordered and paid for locally on the evening.
For those booking the four day package, the morning of day three will be spent delighting in the local gastronomy on a two hour foodie tour. Meet your guide in the town centre and as part of a small group, walk along the iconic Cours Mirabeau, lined with its famous fountains, and through the historical centre. Along the way, you will have plenty of opportunity taste some of the region’s mouth-watering delicacies such as tapenade, cheese, Nougat and of course, chilled rosé wine. The remainder of the day and evening will then be free to explore Aix-en-Provence independently.
