Our three- or four-day breaks based at the prestigious wine resort, Castello di Fonterutoli, offer the ultimate authentic stay in Tuscany. Upon arrival in the region, check into your room at the Castello. With the feel of a traditional Tuscan guesthouse, rooms are spread out in a cluster of buildings across the tiny hamlet that has been home to the Marchesi Mazzei winemaking family for nearly 600 years. You’ll be mere steps away from the modern winery, delightful Osteria and wine bar, and surrounded by rolling Tuscan hills as far as the eye can see.
Depending on your check-in time, the afternoon will be free for you to settle into your lovely surroundings before embarking on a VIP wine experience as the exclusive guests of the Castello di Fonterutoli winery. You’ll be welcomed on a private guided tour of the winery, with the chance to learn about the modern winemaking methods of Castello di Fonterutoli, which has been producing Chianti wines for centuries, and to see the unusual cellars whose chalky limestone walls are visible amongst the barrels. Following such an insightful tour, your guide will walk you through a VIP tasting to sample some of their best Sangiovese-based wines.
You’ll then take a lovely walk through the vineyard and admire the sunset as you venture through the hamlet towards the Osteria (approx. 10 minutes on foot) to continue your evening with a very special five-course tasting dinner, paired with more of the estate’s wines (and perhaps some of those from their partner wineries to provide a more comprehensive range of Italian wines).
On day two, enjoy a leisurely breakfast on-site and spend the remainder of the morning as you please. You may wish to explore the surrounding local area, or we would be pleased to arrange any additional activities for you (at a supplement).
You will then enjoy a delightful tapas-inspired light lunch paired with wines at Castello di Fonterutoli’s wine bar, before being met at the hotel by a private driver who will accompany you to Siena. No trip to Tuscany would be complete without some time in this beautiful city, which is described as an open-air museum. Enjoy some free time to discover Siena’s medieval monuments, quaint streets and extraordinary art collections.
We will also arrange for you to enjoy a tasting at a charming wine bar in the city centre. Dinner is not included as part of the package, but we would be pleased to give you some recommendations and arrange a table reservation for you as you wish. Your driver will return to take you back to Castello di Fonterutoli after dinner.
For those staying for the optional third day, you will be met in the morning after breakfast at the hotel by an English-speaking driver/guide, who will accompany you throughout the day on a private basis. Today, you will have the opportunity to visit two further wineries in the Chianti region, including a light lunch with a selection of local products and extra virgin olive oil alongside wines at one of the wineries.
Your guide will also show you some other beautiful, iconic parts of Tuscany, such as medieval villages and the Monteriggioni Fortress, which is surrounded by vineyards and olive trees. At the end of the day, your driver/guide will return you to your hotel, and the rest of the evening will be free for you to spend as you please before check out on day four.
