The Vinho Verde region, famed for its light, crisp, and aromatic wines, is a land of vibrant flavours, century-old winemaking traditions, and a climate that nurtures the vines and the spirit of all who visit. Monverde, nestled amongst the vines of the prestigious Quinta da Lixa, is the perfect base to immerse yourself in this magical corner of Portugal.
Depending on your arrival time, your Monverde Wine Experience will begin with a guided visit of the hotel’s own winery, exploring the cellars and learning about the unique characteristics of Vinho Verde wines. In the evening, indulge in a refined five-course dinner at the hotel’s panoramic restaurant, where each dish is paired with wines from the estate, a perfect introduction to the flavours of the region.
After a relaxed morning you will be met by your private, English-speaking driver for a day of discovery in the Vinho Verde region.
Your first visit will be to Quinta da Raza, an award-winning winery set amidst picturesque rolling vineyards. Here, you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the estate, from the vines to the modern winemaking facilities, followed by a tasting of their elegant wines. The experience continues with a picnic lunch in a private, idyllic setting, where traditional Portuguese comfort food is served alongside sweeping vineyard views.
In the afternoon, you will visit a nearby winery for a hands-on blending experience. After tasting the principal Vinho Verde grape varieties- Loureiro, Alvarinho, Arinto, Avesso, Azal, and Trajadura, you’ll craft your own unique wine blend, bottle it, design your label, and take it home as a memorable souvenir.
You’ll then return to Monverde, where the evening is yours to relax, enjoy the hotel’s facilities, or venture out for dinner in the surrounding area, we would be delighted to recommend and reserve a table at a local restaurant if you wish.
For guests opting for the four-day package, the morning is free to make the most of Monverde’s facilities before your driver returns to take you to a strikingly modern and forward-thinking winery. This younger, family-owned estate brings a fresh vision to the Vinho Verde region, blending tradition with innovation to craft exciting, contemporary wines. Following a guided tasting, you will enjoy a light lunch of petiscos (Portuguese tapas), savouring the authentic flavours and culinary delicacies of northern Portugal.
Your Vinho Verde wine tour continues with a visit to Amarante, a charming riverside town steeped in history and character. Wander along cobbled streets, admire the São Gonçalo Bridge, and browse the town’s quaint shops and inviting cafés. You will then have free time for dinner in Amarante. We would be delighted to recommend some of our favourite restaurants and reserve a table for you. After dinner, your driver will take you back to Monverde.
On your final morning, after a leisurely breakfast check out of your hotel.
