The Château de Bagnols is classified as a historic monument and has witnessed eight centuries of history. The fortification and outside walls were built in the 13th Century. With its moat and towers, the Château was designed to look out over the valley. With each new owner, the building has been modified and enriched. In the late 80’s, the Château was purchased by Paul and Helen Hamlyn who started to turn a nearly abandoned building into the elegant and luxurious hotel it is today. The Château is now a 5* establishment boasting high quality facilities owned by the Lavorel Hotel Group.
Located in Bagnols, in the heart of the Beaujolais vineyards, Château de Bagnols offers a luxury base to explore this unique wine region. Lyon, with its train station and international airport, is just 30 to 45 minutes’ drive from the Château. Alternatively, Geneva can be reached in 1 ½ hours by car. The Château also has a helipad.
The gastronomic restaurant, 1217, is named after the Château’s year of construction. It has one of the largest gothic chimneys in Europe and serves delicious traditional cuisine with a contemporary twist, made with fresh local produce. A relaxing spa and wellness centre including a heated indoor pool and a Hamman are also at guests’ disposal as well as a cutting-edge fitness centre. The Château’s park, its French gardens and orchard, are ideal for a charming walk. The outdoor pool offers the perfect place to unwind during the summer months.
Château de Bagnols has 22 majestic suites located in the medieval Château, in the spacious outbuildings between the inner courtyard and the surrounding rolling hills or in the former cellar. The castle suites have murals dating back from the 12th to the 18th Century, four-poster beds, fireplaces and marble bathrooms. The spacious garden suites in the outbuildings are decorated in a historic style. The chai suites offer a more contemporary décor with spacious bathrooms, pastel colours and warm wood and golden touches.
