Château La Commaraine dates back as far as 1112, with its surrounding vineyards producing Premier Cru wines that have earnt themselves a golden reputation as some of Burgundy’s finest. Once a fortified manor owned by the Dukes of Burgundy, the Château has been owned by various noble families over the centuries. The château that stands today was built in the 14th and 15th centuries and opens its doors as a luxury hotel in 2026, as the sister property to another Grape Escapes favourite, the celebrated Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa just outside Hautvillers.

Guests of Château La Commaraine can expect premium luxury and excellent wines combined. The hotel has been reimagined to offer a 5* luxury hospitality experience, while still preserving the rich history of this prestigious Château.

Facilities

The château’s spa and outdoor pool sit harmoniously among the vines, while two restaurants (one in the original vaulted cellar) are led by chef Christophe Raoux, Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Guests can enjoy immersive wine experiences: cellar tours, cuverie visits, tastings, and seasonal viticulture activities, plus guided wine safaris, biking and hot-air balloon rides arranged by the property.

Rooms

All 37 rooms and suites have a fresh, contemporary design, but still in keeping with the Château’s extraordinary history. Think of classic Burgundian tradition blended in with light-toned woodwork, original stone walls, and a neutral colour palette with signature pops of pink gold and sky blue. For the ultimate luxury, opt for the hotel’s private residence, which has four bedrooms and comes with its own private tasting room!
