Villa Maïa sits proudly on Fourvière hill: the birthplace of Gallo-Roman civilisation. Its Roman history is demonstrated through the Roman-inspired spa – the marble tiled floor is even a replica of the mosaic which was discovered on that exact spot during archaeological excavations before the hotel was built.
Despite its connections to history, Villa Maïa is a modern haven of luxury: its contemporary interiors were thought up by the same designer who decorated the houses of Yves Saint Laurent and Princess Caroline of Monaco, and its architect made sure to showcase impressive panoramic views from every angle.
Villa Maïa enjoys one of the most privileged locations in Lyon, with sweeping views across the city’s rooftops and rivers. Just steps from the Roman amphitheatre and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, the hotel is set in a peaceful, leafy district that feels a world away from the bustle of the city, yet it’s only a short walk or funicular ride to the heart of Vieux Lyon. Whether discovering UNESCO-listed old town alleyways, dining in renowned bouchons, or simply relaxing in the hotel’s spa and gardens, guests enjoy the best of Lyon from an elegant, elevated retreat.
Guests can unwind in the spa, complete with a 20-metre indoor pool, steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi. The hotel also features a modern gym and offers a range of personalised wellness treatments.
As you’d expect from a luxury stay in France’s foodie capital, dining is a highlight of the experience, with Christian Têtedoie’s Michelin-starred restaurant on site. Guests can also enjoy more casual fare at the on-site bistro, or sip cocktails and local wines in the library lounge or at the seasonal rooftop bar, which boasts breathtaking views across Lyon.
Villa Maïa’s 27 rooms, 6 suites, and exclusive panoramic apartment are all tastefully designed in tune with the contemporary style evident throughout the hotel, along with views over the peaceful gardens or the city of Lyon. In each room, guests will find silk-fibre bedding, marble heated flooring and Japanese toilets for the ultimate contemporary luxury, with the suites boasting their own living room and private terrace with city views, and the signature 100m² penthouse apartment – perfect for longer stays.
