Wine and Truffles in Piedmont

This package offers a fabulous introduction to one of the most revered culinary products in Italy – the truffle! Combining the excellent wines of Piedmont, with the opportunity to hunt, taste and cook with the unique black and white truffles. The break  is available mid-week and weekends March-December. Please note, the truffle hunt activity is weather-dependent, and the truffles hunted and used during cookery vary dependent on season.

Day One

  • agnolotti_01Upon arrival on day one, check into your preferred room at 5* Il Boscareto, a luxurious and unique property nestled in the vineyards, offering breath-taking views of the Langhe countryside.
  • The afternoon and evening will be free to settle in and enjoy your pleasant surroundings, perhaps taking advantage of the hotel’s spa. Access to the spa is complimentary with this package, and treatments can be booked and paid for directly with the hotel.
  • In the evening, delight in a welcome dinner, served in the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant. Your delicious four course meal will be paired with three glasses of wine.

Day Two

  • castagnole cellar 3After breakfast you will be met by an English speaking driver/guide, and accompanied throughout the day on a private basis. You will firstly be taken to meet a local truffle hunter, located near to Asti, who will share with you everything there is to know about this gourmet delicacy; you’ll discover why truffles are so renowned, the local traditions of the hunters, the best environment for growing truffles, and will also learn about the characteristics of the different truffle varieties. You will then be welcomed (subject to weather) to accompany the ‘trifulao’ or truffle hunter and his dog on a typical trail which they often follow – hopefully locating some truffles en-route! The visit will conclude with a truffle tasting; a fresh truffle will be shaved onto local cheese, perfectly paired with some salami and wine!Cooking-Giornalisti-4
  • Following your morning’s activity, you will be taken to the nearby city of Asti, which has a medieval feel to it. Together with your guide, you will have a tour of the city on foot, before there will be some free time for lunch.
  • After lunch, the day will conclude with a visit of a Barbera d’Asti wine estate; as well as having a full tour of the estate and cellars, learning about the wine-production process from press to bottle, you will also have the opportunity to taste a selection of the estate’s wines.
  • You will be dropped back at your hotel at the end of the day, in time to relax and enjoy the evening.

Day Three

  • screenshot 1Today you will have the opportunity to get even more hands on with truffles, in a speciality cookery class! Guided by a professional chef, with your own workstation, you will discover some of the very best recipes to make the truffle shine as a key ingredient. You will be preparing a three course menu based around the truffle of the season (Black Truffle May-September, Alba White Truffle October-November, and Premium Black Truffle December-April), and at the end of the class will dine together, enjoying the fruits of your labour at lunch.
  • After lunch, you will have the opportunity to visit the on-site White Truffle Museum, before you are taken back to the hotel.

Final Day

  • After breakfast and checking out of the hotel, commence your return journey.
