The Wines

Côte d’Azur Wines

The vines were first introduced to the stunning French Riviera by the Romans, many centuries ago. In recent decades, the Côte d’Azur maybe most conjures up the image of a chilled glass of pale rosé in hand… but the region is also known to a number of delicious reds.

While many of our Côte d’Azur wine tours would see you travelling further west to the land of Provence, AOC Bellet is the best-located wine region for those staying in or near Nice. With just a small selection of quality vineyards here, this region produces more red than it does famed Provençal rosé.

This is the only wine region to make wine from the grape varieties Braquet and Folle Noir, used to produce rosé and red wines. Vermentino (whose traditional Provençal name is ‘Rolle’) is also grown and often blended with Chardonnay to make white wines. For Provence’s classic rosés, you’ll find these further west, with many of the big names situated close to the gulf of Saint Tropez.
