For those who are interested in discovering the wines of the Etna DOC wine region this tour could be the answer! For a fully immersive experience the three days of wine tasting can be taken on consecutive days or, if you have longer to spend in Sicily, why not spread out the winery visits over a longer period and combine your wine journey with activities such as hiking and sightseeing or simply relaxing by the pool.
Welcome to Sicily! We have chosen the delightful Firriato Cavanera Wine Resort as your base for this exciting journey to discover the wines of the Etna DOC wine region. Your driver will meet you at the airport and drive you directly to the resort (transfer time is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes from Catania Airport) Once you have checked in to the hotel we suggest taking a short stroll through the vineyards or relaxing by the pool. Why not enjoy a glass of wine at the wine bar before heading to dinner.
We have arranged a welcome dinner for you at the Resort restaurant, La Riserva Bistro. Here, the cuisine has its roots in traditional dishes with an international twist and the chef focuses on locally grown produce, resulting in deliciously fresh regional dishes with a refined international flavour.
Day two of your stay is your first full day of wine exploration. You will first enjoy a wine tasting experience at the Firriato Cavanera Resort before meeting your private guide who will escort you to the Tenuta Terra Nere and to the Planeta Sciaranuova Estate.
Your first visit and tasting will be at the Resort where you are staying. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before meeting your host at 10.00 am for a guided visit followed by a tasting of five of the Estate’s wines.
At 12.00pm your private driver will collect you and take you to your next winery, Monaci delle Terre Nere where you will enjoy a unique visit followed by lunch and an exclusive tasting experience.
A full immersion on the northern side of Etna, including a thorough visit to our crus sites and a comparison of the nuances of the terroirs in the glass. You will taste 5 wines from 3 different altitudes between 600 and 1000 metres. (3-hour experience)
At 3.00pm you will depart with your driver for your third visit of the day at Tasting at Planeta Sciaranuova, (3.30 pm to 5.30 pm). This visit will include a walk in the vineyards, a guided wine tasting of 4 CRU Planeta wines, a technical tasting of 3 olive oils and an early evening aperitif served with appetizers and typical local products.
Depart for your hotel at 5.30 pm (approximate return time 6.00 pm)
Evening at leisure
On day three of your stay, the journey of discovery into Etna wines continues. Enjoy your breakfast and then meet your guide at the hotel.
The first winery visit we have arranged for you is at Pietradolce Wine Estate (10.00 am to 12.00pm) and will include a tasting of 5 wines including wines from all their vineyards.
The second winery of the day is Tenuta Tascante where you will enjoy a detailed tasting of 3 wines, characterised by elegance and freshness, produced from native grapes. This tasting will be paired with Local Etna gastronomy, including cured meats and local cheeses and a selection of meat from the Nebrodi black pig.
The final visit of the day from 3:30pm – 5:30pm will be at I Custodi delle Vigne dell’Etna and will include a guided visit of the vineyard and the cellar plus a tasting of 5 wines, including white, red and rosé: Aedes, Ante, Pistus, Aetneus, Alnus.
Following the visit your driver will return you to your hotel where you will be able to spend the evening at your leisure.
Day four is your third and final day of Etna wine exploration. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and meet your driver at 10.00 am when you will depart for your first winery visit at Bennati.
This will be a shared group experience designed for wine enthusiasts who want to discover the uniquely specific character of wines originating from different slopes of the Etna D.O.C.. You will gain further insight into the history of vine growing and wine making on the slopes of Etna. The experience includes a guided tour of the Estate and vineyard and the guided tasting of 5 Benanti wines originating from different Contradas, along with a selection of local gourmet delicacies created by their Resident Chef, a graduate of the famous ALMA school with experience in Michelin-starred kitchens.
Following this visit you driver will be waiting to escort you to Terre Constantino where you will be treated to a complete food and wine journey. You will taste 4 wines paired with traditional dishes including a platter of local cured meats and cheeses accompanied by Etna honey and jam. Wines for tasting are: DeAetna Etna Bianco DOC, DeAetna Etna Rosato DOC, DeAetna Etna red DOC, Rasola red wine.
Your final visit of the day will be at the Barone di Villagrande Estate where your journey through Etna wine will end in style – You will be welcomed for a tour of the winery and conclude your visit with a tasting of 5 carefully selected wines paired with local seasonable products.
Return to your hotel and enjoy your final evening at leisure.
Day five is departure day. Following breakfast, your driver will meet you at the hotel and drive you to the airport in plenty of time to catch your flight home.
