Travel to Sicily

If you are interested in learning how to get to Sicily, the principal options are as follows:

Fly

The best airports to fly into when visiting Sicily are located in Catania and Palermo. 

If flying from the UK, there are direct flights from Heathrow (British Airways), Gatwick (British Airways and Easyjet), and Luton (Easyjet). Ryanair also operates flights from London Stansted to Marsala Trapani Airport (TPS).

While there are no direct flights from North America to Sicily, there are many internal flights available to Sicily from Rome,Milan, and other major travel hubs.

Palermo airport is just over 20 miles from the centre of Palermo and costs approximately 50€ in a taxi. Catania airport is just over 4 miles from the centre of Catania and costs approximately 25€ for the 15-minute taxi ride. There is also the option of a bus to the city centre.

Ferry from Mainland Italy

For those guests who wish to travel to Sicily from mainland Italy there are several options. The fastest crossing from Villa San Giovanni in Calabria (mainland Italy) to Messina (north-eastern tip of Sicily, a 45-minute drive to Taormina) is just 20 minutes.

An alternative option is the Naples to Palermo crossing (journey time approximately 10.5 hours).
