Four day flexible tour exploring Taormina and the wines of Etna

Trip Summary

Arrive in Taormina at your own convenience and check into your hotel with spectacular views of Mount Etna and the sea.  The remainder of the day will be free for you to enjoy at leisure; we suggest taking the afternoon to relax at the pool or the beach before spending the evening wandering the myriad of charming, narrow streets in the centre of the town.

On day two of your Essential Taormina tour, you will enjoy breakfast at the hotel before joining a small, shared group tour to discover the historic villages dotted along the slopes of Mount Etna and to visit two wineries in the Etna DOC region. The day will offer stunning views of the volcano and a chance to try locally produced specialities such as honey.  You will learn about the area’s rich wine-making traditions, and of course,  taste plenty of delicious wines.

You will visit two wineries during the day; at the first winery, a true trailblazer in the world of Etna wine, you will be greeted by an expert Sommelier who will introduce you to the world of viticulture on Etna with an explanation of wine production from vine to bottle and the importance of the region’s unique volcanic terroir. The visit culminates with a tasting of six different wines.

The last stop will be at a family run winery where you will be greeted by the owner.  Here you will enjoy a guided walk around the property learning the peculiarities of the estate before being welcomed to enjoy a typical three course Sicilian lunch, including the most famous pasta dish in the region; Pasta a la Norma. Lunch will be accompanied by a tasting of three wines.

After lunch you will rejoin your driver for the trip back to Taormina.  The rest of the evening will be free for you to spend as you please.

After a leisurely breakfast on day three of your Essential Taormina tour you will enjoy free time to take advantage of the hotel facilities or to further explore Taormina’s cultural and historical sites at your own pace.   In the late afternoon you’ll take part in a guided walking tour with plenty of wine and local speciality food such as fine Sicilian cheeses, cured meats and artisanal pastries to taste along the way.  This culinary journey is the perfect way to spend your last evening in Taormina.

Following the tour the rest of the evening will be free for you to spend at leisure.

Day four is departure day.  Enjoy breakfast and check out from the hotel.

• These prices are per person and based on two people travelling together and sharing a twin or double room.
• These are realistic guide prices, based on travel in standard season (usually April to the end of October). Discounts often apply for travel out of season (usually November to the end of March) or if there are more than two of you travelling together. Please let us know your preferred travel dates for a definitive price.
• Although we propose specific hotels as part of our standard packages, we enjoy excellent relationships and preferential rates at the majority of the hotels in each of our featured destinations. Therefore if you would prefer to stay in a different hotel, this can be arranged. Please contact us for the relevant supplements/discounts.
• Other room grades are available at most of the hotels that we work with. Just let us know which hotel you prefer and we will send you the relevant supplements for the various room grades.
