Five day Sicily wine tour based in Taormina and Etna

Trip Summary

On day one of your Taormina and Etna wine tour you will be met by your private driver at the airport in Catania and driven to your first hotel in Taormina. After checking in at the hotel the remainder of the day will be free for you to enjoy at leisure. Perched 200 metres above the sea with a spectacular view of Mount Etna we suggest taking the afternoon to relax at at the pool or the beach before spending the evening wandering the myriad of pedestrianised narrow streets in the centre of the town.

On day two you will enjoy a guided walking tour of Taormina’s most important historical sights. Meet your guide and start your visit at the splendid Teatro Antico (also known as The Greek Theatre), which is one of the most famous symbols of Taormina. The structure was carved into the side of the mountain and provides breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea, with Mount Etna in the background. In Roman times the Theatre was renovated and reached a capacity of about 20,000 spectators. Today, it is still used for concerts and cultural events.

The tour will last approximately 3 hours ending in the centre of the town where you will find a great selection of restaurants to choose from for lunch.

The third day of your trip is a day of wine tasting and you be checking in to a wine resort for the next two nights. After checking out from your hotel in Taormina your driver will pick you up and take you to your first winery stop; the Terre Constantino Winery where you will be treated to a technical tasting of 6 wines served with bread baked in a wood-fired oven and the Estate’s Organic Extra Virgen Olive Oil.

Expect to taste the following wines: DeAetna Etna Bianco DOC, DeAetna Etna Rosato DOC, DeAetna Etna Rosso
DOC, Contrada Blandano Etna Rosso DOC Riserva, Contrada Blandano Etna white, Rasola red wine.

Following the vist at Terre Constantino your driver will deliver you to Firriato Winery Resort, your home for the next two nights. Settle in and enjoy some time to relax before heading down to the restaurant where you will be treated to a four course meal including an appetiser, starter, main course and dessert; each course paired with wine. (Tasting of 4 wines included)

Day four of your Taormina and Etna wine tour is a full day of wine tasting. After breakfast your driver will collect you and drive you to your first appointment at Planeta Sciaranuova where you will have the opportunity to visit the winery and take part in a tasting experience which highlights the importance of the terroir in wine production. The visit will include a walk in the vineyards, a guided tasting of four Etna wines paired with a selection of traditional Etna cheeses and breads made with fine flours plus a tasting of three olive oils

Your second winery of the day where you also enjoy a light lunch will be at Tenuta Tascante. Here you will visit the winery and taste three characterful and fresh wines produced from local grapes of the Etna region; Nerello Mascalese and Carricante. The tasting will be paired with a selection of local cured meats and cheeses.

The third and final winery visit of the day will be at Pietradolce Winery where you will enjoy a guided tour of a pre-phylloxera vineyard, visit the cellars and indulge in a tasting of 8 wines including the Grand Cru Barbagalli Etna Rosso DOC and Sant’Andrea Bianco. A selection of local products will accompany the tasting.

After the visit and tasting your driver will take you back to your hotel. Enjoy your evening at leisure.

Day five is departure day. Check out after breakfast and meet your driver who will take you to the airport in plenty of time to board your return flight.

• These prices are per person and based on two people travelling together and sharing a twin or double room.
• These are realistic guide prices, based on travel in standard season (usually April to the end of October). Discounts often apply for travel out of season (usually November to the end of March) or if there are more than two of you travelling together. Please let us know your preferred travel dates for a definitive price.
• Although we propose specific hotels as part of our standard packages, we enjoy excellent relationships and preferential rates at the majority of the hotels in each of our featured destinations. Therefore if you would prefer to stay in a different hotel, this can be arranged. Please contact us for the relevant supplements/discounts.
