Based in the wine capital of Champagne, Essential Epernay is one of our most popular breaks. After settling in on day one, an introductory tasting session of five Champagnes will take place in a cosy tasting boutique in Epernay.
On day two, you will start your day with a visit and tastings at one of the large Champagne Estates on the Avenue de Champagne. Subject to availability, it could be the world-famous Moët and Chandon estate, Alfred Gratien, the house Champagne of the Wine Society in London, or another large Champagne house. Please note that this will be a group tour. Following this, you will meet your English-speaking specialist driver/guide at a central departure point in Epernay for the remainder of the day as part of a small group (maximum eight people). During the course of the day, your guide will regale you with tales and anecdotes of the history of Champagne and its vineyards, introducing you to the particularities of the region. After exploring the famous Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, you will stop at the famous hilltop village of Hautvillers, the “cradle of Champagne.” As well as admiring the spectacular views across the vineyards, your guide will take you on a tour of the village, visiting places such as the Church where Dom Perignon is buried. A light lunch will be served (accompanied by Champagnes, of course), before visiting a small family-run Champagne House for a tour and tasting session of their Champagnes. You will be taken back to Epernay at the end of the day.
For those staying an additional night, day three offers you the chance to visit two of your favourite Champagne Houses in Reims by taking a short train journey through the vineyards. Subject to your dates of travel / availability, options include Taittinger, GH Mumm, Pommery, Lanson, Veuve Clicquot, and Ruinart. Walking distances to the Champagne Houses can be up to 25 minutes, therefore you may prefer to take a taxi from Reims train station on the day. Please note that some of these Houses are very popular and offer very few tours, therefore early booking is essential. In the evening, a three course Champagne tasting dinner will be served in a highly-regarded restaurant in the centre of Epernay. Each course will be accompanied by a different glass of Champagne.
(ii) For all of our Champagne trips, the outline itinerary is indicative and is subject to minor changes depending on supplier availability. Availability cannot be guaranteed until we have received a confirmed booking, together with the deposit payment (or payment in full where the dates of travel are in less than 60 days). If the named accommodation / visits are not available, we will endeavour to find suitable alternatives of a similar grade; this may be subject to a supplement or a rebate depending on the price available.

"We were all very happy with the tour you provided, and mostly your very very in depth expertise and knowledge about the place. I will definitely use you again if the opportunity arises and highly recommend you to anyone I can. Many thanks for organizing a wonderful trip. The tour bus was luxurious and nice, the hotel was very comfortable, and the tour in the place you recommended was fabulous and the meals and restaurants were so great! The only 'bad' tour was the one that you advised against anyway, so you know exactly what you're talking about!"
