Trip Summary

Hidden Gem Wine Tours in Alsace

Alsace is one of our most picture-perfect destinations, and what better way to enjoy the fantastic wines and glorious countryside than staying in a fairy-tale Château? The breath-taking Château d’Isenbourg is located on the Alsace wine route and you can expect a pampered and relaxing stay, with a three course dinner (excluding drinks) served in the gastronomic restaurant on your first evening.

On day two, you will be met at the Château by an English-speaking specialist/driver guide, who will accompany you throughout the day on a private basis. First stop will be the lovely village of Eguisheim- one of the most beautiful in France. Here, a local wine-maker will take you on a scenic stroll through his vineyards, then to his winery, concluding with tastings of three of his wines. Following this, you will be taken to the picturesque village of Riquewihr. Not only famed for its wines, it is also of extraordinary architectural interest, as medieval remains, such as the ramparts, and elegant half-timbered houses with oriel windows and fountains can be seen throughout the village.

No trip to Alsace would be complete without dining in a traditional winstub. Meaning “wine lounge,” winstubs epitomise the Alsatian way of life. Winstubs were originally rooms which were open to the public where wine-growers could sell surplus wines. They boast a convivial atmosphere and country-style décor with red-checked table cloths and wooden tables, where diners enjoy carafes of wine accompanied by small, simple dishes. Here, you will have the opportunity to sample regional specialities, such as Sauerkraut, Baeckaoffa and tartes flambées over a leisurely lunch. This is included as part of the package price and the meal is accompanied by a Cremant and a local Riesling.

After a tour and tastings of three wines with local cheeses at a winery in the village, the remainder of the afternoon will be spent enjoying a visit to a third local winery, before your guide takes you back to the Château.

For those opting for the four day break, we will arrange pre-booked and pre-paid transfers to and from Colmar, where you will be taken on a two hour guided tour of the town. Of particular interest are the charming half-timbered houses of the story-book Little Venice and the tanner’s and fishmonger’s quarters. A three course lunch with a sparkling wine aperitif and two glasses of wine will then be served in a fabulous restaurant which is enviably located on the canal. After lunch, enjoy a tasting session of five Alsatian wines in the caveau of a premium local winery.
