Portugal is one of our most requested regions for wine tours, thanks of course in part to the excellent wines being produced there but also because of the country’s reputation for being a safe and welcoming destination, rich in its diversity, offering cosmopolitan cities and a fantastic climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year! Portugal is home to a varied mix of cultures, heritage and landscapes which all come together in a small, yet unforgettably dynamic and welcoming country.

Upon arrival on day one of your Exclusive Wines of the South of Portugal wine tour, check into your hotel right in the heart of the city. After checking in at the hotel the remainder of the day will be free for you to enjoy at leisure. Depending on your arrival time and preference you will have the option to take a private gourmet walking tour or enjoy a meal in a carefully selected traditional Portuguese restaurant within easy walking distance of your hotel.

Day two of your tour has been set aside to discover the wine region named after Portugal’s capital city. Your driver for the day will meet you at the hotel after breakfast and you will head out to the Lisbon wine region, just over an hour’s drive from the city. Your first visit will be to a boutique wine estate where the owners are focusing on creating wines produced with indigenous grape varieties, a wine project designed to contribute to local rural development as well as to promote the cultural heritage of the region.

At lunchtime, you will enjoy a delicious meal at one of our favourite fish and seafood restaurants in the region. Here, you will not only get to sample excellent food and wine, but also have plenty of opportunity to admire the beautiful ocean view.

In the afternoon, your driver will take you on to one of the oldest wine areas in the region: Colares. Here, you will discover the most westerly wines produced in Europe. Colares wines are famous for their heritage, strength and proximity to the ocean. You will visit one of the most exquisite wine producers in the entire Lisbon wine region, which is situated in breathtaking surroundings on the slopes of Sintra mountain.

Following your visit and tasting session at this winery, your driver will return you to the hotel, and you will have the evening to relax and spend time at leisure in Lisbon.

After a leisurely breakfast on day three, check out of your hotel. You will be collected from your hotel by your driver for the day and together you will continue your journey into Alentejo. On the way, you will enjoy a stop at an estate belonging to one of the oldest winemaking families in the Península de Setúbal! Enjoy listening to their stories of the winery and the region while tasting some white, red and rosé from Setúbal paired with regional delicacies.

After this insightful visit, you will continue your journey into Alentejo ready to check into your hotel, ideally located in the centre of Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rest of the day is free to spend as you please, offering plenty of time to relax – perhaps with a dip in the hotel’s swimming pool, or by heading out independently to explore this beautiful historic city.

Day four of your tour is dedicated to discovering the wines of the Alentejo region. After a leisurely breakfast, your driver will pick you up at your hotel and you will set off into the Alentejo countryside for a beautifully paced day of wine and gastronomy. The morning unfolds at one of our favourite estates, where time is taken to explore the winery, sample estate olive oils and wines, and enjoy a leisurely lunch showcasing regional flavours, all in an intimate and welcoming setting. The afternoon continues with a visit to a second winery, a celebrated family-run property known for its commitment to quality, innovation and sense of place. After tastings and time to soak up the landscape, you will be driven back to your hotel in Évora to enjoy the evening at leisure.

Day five is your final full day in Alentejo and will be spent exactly as it should be: unhurried and immersed in great wine. After breakfast, your private driver will collect you and you will head out to visit two carefully selected wine estates. A light lunch will also be served at one of the estates. The day is all about relaxed discovery with cellar visits, tastings that showcase the character of the region, and time to enjoy the setting without feeling rushed. As the afternoon draws to a close, you’ll return to Évora for your final evening, bringing a beautifully balanced wine journey to a close.

Day six of your tour is departure day. If you would like to extend your stay or continue to another region of Portugal or Spain, please let us know and we would be delighted to arrange a bespoke extension to your trip.

• These prices are per person and based on two people travelling together and sharing a twin or double room.
• These are realistic guide prices, based on travel in standard season (usually April to the end of October). Discounts often apply for travel out of season (usually November to the end of March) or if there are more than two of you travelling together. Please let us know your preferred travel dates for a definitive price.
• Although we propose specific hotels as part of our standard packages, we enjoy excellent relationships and preferential rates at the majority of the hotels in each of our featured destinations. Therefore if you would prefer to stay in a different hotel, this can be arranged. Please contact us for the relevant supplements/discounts.
• Other room grades are available at most of the hotels that we work with. Just let us know which hotel you prefer and we will send you the relevant supplements for the various room grades.
• Single supplements and extra night prices are available upon request.
