Luxury Provence Wine Break
The stunning town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is a popular destination for those looking to experience the Provençal “art de vivre”. 18th Century mansions, pretty chapels and convents line the winding streets of the historic centre. Shaded boulevards, squares adorned with fountains and the shaded terraces of the town’s cafés and restaurants make Saint-Rémy-de-Provence the perfect place to soak up the unique ambiance of the South of France.
Located a short drive from the town centre, the 5* Château des Alpilles is a beautiful setting for rest and relaxation. After checking into your preferred room grade on the first day of your trip, the remainder of the afternoon and evening will be free for you settle in and enjoy your pleasant surroundings.
After breakfast on day two, you will be met at the Château by an English-speaking specialist driver/guide, who will accompany you throughout the day on a private basis. Today, you will discover the wines of the Baux-de-Provence area, which also boasts incredible landscapes. During the course of the day, you will visit two wineries, to see first-hand the wine-making process and taste extensive examples of the region’s red and rosé wines, made predominantly from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. A small amount of white wine is also produced here (usually blends of Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Vermentino), and almost all of the wineries in the appellation are organic.
You will also visit a local olive mill, where you will taste the Baux-de-Provence AOP olive oil. You will have free time for lunch today, and your guide will be very pleased to recommend a suitable restaurant depending on how hungry you are feeling on the day.
After being taken back to the Château for some time to relax and freshen up, an unforgettable multi-course dinner will be served in the triple Michelin-starred l’Oustau de Beaumanière, which is a short drive from the Château (the reception team will be able to call you a taxi on the evening). Drinks have not been included as part of the package, and can be ordered and paid for locally.
For those staying a third night, your guide will return to the Château on the morning of day three, and accompany you on a second day of wine tasting. Today will be spent in the Luberon, an extremely picturesque region, rich in treasures such as lavender fields, magnificent hilltop villages and of course, superb wines! The wines produced here are usually full-bodied red wines, however white and rosé wines are also produced. You will visit three wineries, with free time for lunch in one of the villages.
You will be taken back to the Château at the end of the day, and your final evening will be free to do as you please before checking out on day four.
