Essential Tuscany and Rome Wine Tour

Trip Summary

During the course of the day, you will be welcomed as the guests of three highly-regarded  Tuscan wineries, where your guide will show you the fascinating wine-making process from vine to bottle. At each estate, you will taste a variety of Tuscany wines and olive oils, discovering the secrets of the Tuscan wine-makers. The traditional lunch served at one of the wineries will be a true highlight of your holiday. Here, you will taste examples of dishes that have made Tuscany such a well-loved gastronomic capital and of course, premium wines will complement the cuisine. You will be taken back to Florence at the end of the day.

The evening will be free for you to do as you please.

After breakfast on day three, check out of the hotel and board the direct train departing from  Florence Santa Maria Novella station and arriving at Rome Termini. Upon arrival in Rome, check into a Standard room at the 4* Marcella Royal Hotel Rooftop Garden. The hotel is ideally located in Rome city centre, just a few minutes’ walk from the station. The afternoon will be free for you to do as you please. You may wish to relax at the hotel and settle in at your own pace. Alternatively, you may prefer to explore Rome independently.

In the evening, take part in a fabulous four hour walking gastronomy tour with a specialist foodie guide. This is a small group tour and there will be a maximum of ten guests. You will walk around the enchanting Eternal City and stop at traditional restaurants and trattoria sample local delicacies and flavourful wines. Your tour will include a stop to relax and try some lovely pasta and antipasti dishes and will end with a traditional gelato!

On day five, after a leisurely breakfast breakfast, meet your knowledgeable tour guide at a central departure point.  Your day will start with a half-day tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Your guided tour will navigate through the vast halls of the Vatican Museums, home to one of the world’s most impressive art collections.  You’ll see masterpieces such as Raphael’s “The School of Athens” in the Raphael Rooms and the intricate frescoes adorning the Gallery of Maps.​

The highlight of your tour is the Sistine Chapel, where you’ll gaze upon Michelangelo’s renowned ceiling frescoes, including “The Creation of Adam,” and “The Last Judgment” on the altar wall. These iconic artworks offer a profound insight into Renaissance artistry and the chapel’s significance within the Vatican.​

Following the tour, the remainder of the day is yours to explore the enchanting city of Rome at your leisure. Wander through historic streets, discover charming piazzas, and perhaps indulge in authentic Italian cuisine at a local trattoria. ​

Day Three

• After breakfast, check out of the hotel.

• In the evening, take part in a walking gastronomy tour in Rome and visit delicious, traditional restaurants and trattoria with a local food-loving guide.

Day Four

Today, you will be able to choose from the three following activities. All of these activities are small group activities.

• Meet your tour guide at a central meeting point for a half day tour exploring the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel.
• The remainder of the day will be free for you to do as you please.

Final Day

• After a leisurely breakfast, check out of the hotel.

• These prices are per person and based on two people travelling together and sharing a twin or double room.
• These are realistic guide prices, based on travel in standard season (usually April to the end of October). Considerable discounts often apply for travel out of season (usually November to the end of March) or if there are more than two of you travelling together. Please let us know your preferred travel dates for a definitive price.
• Although we propose specific hotels as part of our standard packages, we enjoy excellent relationships and preferential rates at the majority of the hotels in each of our featured destinations. Therefore if you would prefer to stay in a different hotel, this can be arranged. Please contact us for the relevant supplements/discounts.
• Florence continues to be one of the most visited cities in the world, with 2 million visitors in 2023. Due to this high demand, accommodation prices in the city are often high and subject to fluctuations. While we have made every effort to estimate the cost of our packages accurately, there may be rare occasions where prices vary.
• Other room grades are available at most of the hotels that we work with. Just let us know which hotel you prefer and we will send you the relevant supplements for the various room grades.
• Single supplements and extra night prices are available upon request.
