The package is perfect for those who wish to see two of the iconic Portuguese cities whilst experiencing the true Portuguese way of life, with famous wines and local gastronomy. You will firstly spend time in Porto to learn about Port, visiting a selection of renowned Port lodges. You will then travel by rail to Lisbon to discover Portugal’s beautiful historic capital city and sample more Portuguese wine including moscatel wine. You will also have the chance to explore Lisbon’s surroundings on a trip to a traditional fishing town and to the Arrábida National Park.
Upon arrival in Porto, check into your preferred room at the 4* Carris Hotel, ideally located in the city centre. The evening will be free for you to do as you please.
Walking between each destination on day two in Porto, you will visit two esteemed port wine lodges. The famous Sandeman Port wine lodge boasts a magnificent view of Porto. Here, your English-speaking guide will accompany you through the lodges full of casks of ageing Porto wine and your visit will conclude with a tutored tasting of ten, twenty, thirty and forty-year-old aged Tawny ports. You will also enjoy a guided tour and tastings at the renowned Grahams Port wine lodge. Following your visit, you will taste three Ports in the Vintage Room; Graham’s Six Grapes, Graham’s thirty-year-old Tawny and Graham’s 2000 Vintage port. Also included in the package is a 50-minute Douro river cruise in a Rabelo boat. Rabelo boats were historically used to transport Port wine barrels from the inner Douro region to Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine cellars are located.
Portuguese cuisine is truly delicious, and you will sample many of the region’s delicacies on your trip. A traditional food and wine tasting lunch will be served in a true Portuguese setting. Whilst admiring the views of Porto from this convivial riverside bar/restaurant in Gaia, you will enjoy five courses, including a traditional grilled fish and bread dish, and a selection of artisan cheeses from the North of Portugal. The meal will be accompanied by two fabulous Douro wines and three different Ports, with water and coffee included.
On the morning of day three, check out of the hotel and make your way to Porto Campanhã station. From here, travel by train to Lisbon Santa Apolonia station. The journey time will be just under three hours. Upon arrival in Lisbon, there will be time to have lunch, relax and check in at the 4* Hotel Lisboa Plaza. In the late afternoon, meet a local guide at a central location and take part in an entertaining three hour walking wine tour of the city as part of a small group. Lisbon is a city filled with historic cafés, energetic new eateries, and fresh local markets. Your wine-loving tour guide will introduce you to his/her favourite Portuguese wines and to the Portuguese wine culture as well as take you on a tour of Lisbon city centre. Your tour will include five stops to sample some local wines and appetizers. The rest of the evening will then be free for you to do as you please.
On the morning of day four, meet an English-speaking specialisr driver/guide at a central departure point in the city centre. Today, you will be taken on a full day tour to Arrábida & Setúbal as part of a small group. Your tour will start by crossing Lisbon’s 25th of April Bridge followed by an opportunity to see the Statue of Cristo Rei (Christ the King) and Belém National Palace. You will then be taken to a famous 200 year old wine cellar, where you will learn about the production of Moscatel wine and enjoy a tasting session of some of the estate’s wines. You will then visit a local café to try some traditional cheeses and pastries. The day will continue with a visit to the fishing town of Setúbal, where you will have time to explore the colourful market. Here, you will also have free time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will be taken to the Arrábida National Park, where you will admire the Arrábida Mountains as well as the beautiful local beaches.
