This tour has been created with lovers of the “grape” outdoors in mind. The Beaujolais region is a picturesque area, with beautiful landscapes, charming hills and slopes covered in vines as well as authentic villages. There is simply no better way to experience this truly unique region than by walking through the vineyards and along countryside roads, from village to village. Our Beaujolais walking break gives you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the region, strolling through the countryside and sampling fruity Beaujolais wines.
Upon arrival in the region, check into your preferred room grade at the 4* Château de Pizay. In the afternoon, make your way to the Château’s Oenothèque/wine bar, where you will sample eight of the Château’s own wines. The Oenothèque is a unique space, combining a wine shop, a wine bar and a discovery area with wine sensory workshops. The evening will be free for you to do as you please. We would be delighted to reserve you a table for dinner if required.
After breakfast, on the morning of day two, pop your boots on and get ready for a day of walking through the picturesque Beaujolais vineyards. We have designed a day of moderate level walking for you. You will firstly walk 7 km from the Château de Pizay to the lovely village of Fleurie. Fleurie is renowned for its Chapel of the Madonna, which offers stunning views over the surrounding vineyards. Here, a tour and tastings will be arranged a local winery. The Beaujolais wines produced in Fleurie are elegant, fruity and delicate with notes of iris, violet, rose, red fruit and peaches. Following your tour, you will have some free time for lunch in Fleurie. You will then walk a further 4 km from Fleurie to Chiroubles, where a tour and tastings at a second winery will be organised for you. Chiroubles produces fresh, ruby red wines, with a floral nose. Another short 3 km walk will take you from Chiroubles to Villié-Morgon for a third visit to another local winery. The Beaujolais wines from the Morgon appellation tend to be more powerful, richer and more structured, with aromas of ripe stone fruits. At the end of the tour, walk back 4 km to Château de Pizay. In the evening, a delicious three course dinner will be served in the hotel’s gourmet restaurant. Drinks have not been included as part of the package, and can be ordered and paid for directly on the day.
For those who opt for the four day break, a second day of walking will be arranged for you. You will firstly walk 6 km from Château de Pizay to Lancié via Corcelles-en-Beaujolais. The stunning Château de Corcelles-en-Beaujolais is partly classified as a historic monument and well worth a stop. A tour and tastings will be arranged at a local estate on your way to Lancié. The wines of the area are produced under the appellation Beaujolais AOC and are fruity and crisp red wines. You will then walk 2 km from Lancié to the Hameau Duboeuf in Romanèche-Thorins. You will be provided with entry tickets to the Hameau Duboeuf wine theme park, a unique place where guests can learn the history of the region and the wine trade through interactive activities. Here, you will have some free time for lunch and to explore the park at your leisure. At the end of the day, walk back 7 km to the Château de Pizay. As always, we would be delighted to suggest a restaurant and reserve you a table for dinner if required.
After a leisurely breakfast on your final day, check out of the hotel.
