Trip Summary

France driving holiday to Burgundy

On day one of your trip, drive from the UK to Chablis, taking the Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais. You have the complete freedom to choose your preferred crossing time. If you would prefer to spend a night en route to break up the 4 ½ hour drive, we would be pleased to arrange this for you.

After checking into your Grand Comfort room at the 4* Hostellerie des Clos, located in the village of Chablis itself, the remainder of the afternoon and evening will be free to settle in and enjoy your pleasant surroundings.

After breakfast on day two, you will be met at the hotel by an English-speaking specialist driver/guide, who will accompany you throughout the day on a private basis. Today, you will have the opportunity to truly immerse yourself in the wines of the Chablis appellation. As well as visiting a variety of vineyard plots and three wineries to see first-hand the difference between Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru Chablis wines, you will also taste extensive examples. You will have free time for lunch, and your guide will be more than happy to recommend a restaurant depending on how hungry you are feeling on the day. In the evening, a three course dinner with drinks will be served in the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant.

After a leisurely breakfast and check out on day three, drive to the village of Vosne-Romanée in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. The driving time will be around 1 ½ hours. Here, check into your Privilège room at the 4* Hotel le Richebourg. The remainder of the day and evening will then be free to do as you please. This evening, we would be very pleased to reserve you a table for dinner in the hotel’s gourmet restaurant.

On day four, e-bikes will be provided for the day (if you would prefer a private driver instead, just let us know and we will provide you with the relevant supplement). Take a 14km ride along the famous Route des Grand Crus to Aloxe-Corton, one of the only villages in Burgundy to boast both red and white Grand Cru wines. Here, you will be welcomed at the authentic family-owned Domaine Comte Sénard, where you will visit the vineyard, Les Clos des Meix, as well as the 13th Century cellars. The visit will conclude with a three course traditional lunch, during which you will have the unique opportunity to taste six Grand Cru wines, complemented further by comments from one the estate’s sommeliers. After lunch, head back to Vosne-Romanée to visit a premium winery in the village. As well as having a private tour of the historic cellars, you will taste five wines including a Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. The evening will then be yours to relax and perhaps enjoy another glass of wine or two at the hotel.

After checking out on day five, drive half an hour to the famous village of Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. Here, check into a Premier Cru room at the 4* Le Montrachet hotel. After settling in, take a scenic 30 minute walk (private chauffeur transport can instead be arranged if preferred), through the picturesque vineyards to the magnificent Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. You will firstly visit the estate and cellars, and the tour will conclude with a light lunch of local cheeses and delicacies, served alongside four wines. In the evening, you will be welcomed as the guests of Olivier Leflaive, one of the biggest names in the village. Here, a broad tasting of nine wines from the Côte de Beaune (including Premier Cru wines) will be offered alongside a delightful three course dinner. The owners and staff are very gracious hosts and the wine tastings and meal always prove both enjoyable and enlightening.

On day six, you will be met at the hotel by an English-speaking driver/guide, who will accompany you throughout the day on a private basis. Today will focus on the Côte Chalonnaise, visiting three wineries in well-known villages such as Rully and Mercurey, with an al fresco picnic lunch served at one of the estates. This evening, we would be very pleased to reserve you a table for dinner in the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant.

On day seven, check out of the hotel and drive an hour to Mâcon, where you will check in at the 4* Panorama 360 hotel. E-bikes will then be delivered for the day (if you would prefer a private driver instead, just let us know and we will provide you with the relevant supplement). Cycling a total of 23km through the Côte Mâconnais vineyards today, you will visit two wineries for private tours and extensive tastings of the region’s wines (including the legendary Pouilly-Fuissé). A light lunch will be served at one of the estates. This evening, we recommend taking the time to enjoy some drinks and snacks on the terrace of the hotel’s Sky Bar, which offers breath-taking views of Mâcon, the Saône and even Mont Blanc on a clear day.

On your final morning, check out and make your way back to Calais for your return Eurotunnel crossing. The driving time will be just over six hours, and we would be very pleased to arrange an overnight stay en route if you would like to break up the journey.
