Our three Essential Beaujolais break is designed to provide a great introduction to Beaujolais wines as well as the region’s world-famous gastronomy. Based at the charming 4* Grand Hotel des Terreaux in Lyon, guests are conveniently located in Lyon city centre and have access to a wide range of shops, restaurants and cafés.
Upon arrival, check into your preferred room grade at the hotel. The remainder of the day will be free for you to do as you please. In the evening, a three course dinner with drinks will be served in a traditional Bouchon Lyonnais. A Bouchon is a type of restaurant specific to Lyon which serves authentic Lyonnaise cuisine in a convivial atmosphere.
On the morning of day two, after breakfast, meet your English-speaking driver/guide at a central departure point in the city centre. You will be taken on a half day Beaujolais wine tour as part of a small group. The Beaujolais vineyards are located approximately 30 minutes north of Lyon and your knowledgeable guide will regale you with tales and anecdotes about this unique region with its specific terroir, beautiful hills and picturesque villages.
You will be taken to a local estate for a full tour of the facilities followed by a tasting of their wines. You will also have the opportunity to sample a traditional “Mâchon”, a platter of local products such as cold cuts and cheeses served locally as a snack. You will be taken back to Lyon at the end of the tour.
In the afternoon, join a three hour walking foodie tour of. As part of a small group, your expert local guide will take you around the city, combining historic and cultural sights with delicious, mouth-watering food stops. A memorable way to experience Lyon and its lively atmosphere! Tastings include cheese, chocolate, beer and much more. The evening will then be free for you to do as you please. Lyon is considered the capital of gastronomy and there are a wide range of restaurants in the city, from authentic Bouchon to gourmet Michelin starred restaurants. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you would like us to recommend a restaurant and reserve you a table for dinner.
After a leisurely breakfast on day three, check out of the hotel. If you would like to stay longer in the region, taste more Beaujolais and visit additional estates, or even explore a different wine region, please let us know and we would be delighted to create a bespoke itinerary tailored entirely to your requirements.
