Our Hidden Gem packages are based at enchanting properties with picturesque surroundings, and our Hidden Gem break at Villa Quaranta is one of the finest examples. The Villa is a haven of calm, nestled in small town at the heart of the Veneto vineyards. On this break, you will have the opportunity to learn about the wines produced in the area, especially the Valpolicella wines, enjoy some enlightening tastings and sample plenty of delicious local dishes.
Upon arrival in the Veneto region, check into your preferred room grade at the charming Villa Quaranta Tommasi Wine Hotel & Spa. The hotel, once a private residence, boasts great facilities such as an outdoor pool, spa and wellness centre, as well as a large, lovely park to ensure a relaxing stay. Once settled in, we will arrange a tasting of the Villa’s own wines for you. In the evening, a delicious dinner inspired by local specialties will be served in the hotel’s restaurant.
After breakfast on day two, you will be met at your hotel by a private driver/guide, who will accompany you throughout the day. You will be taken to the renowned Valpolicella production area and your guide will regale you with tales and anecdotes of the history of Veneto and its vineyards, introducing you to the particularities of the region.
Valpolicella wines are mainly made with Corvina grapes, with small additions of other grape varieties, and range from light to medium bodied red wines with aromas of cherry, raspberry, plum and violet. The area also produces the renowned Amarone della Valpolicella; rich, dense wines with aromas of black cherry, figs, dark chocolate, molasses, wood smoke, orange and clove.
Today, you will visit two local wineries for full tours of the wine making facilities, learning all about the wine making process, and tastings of the estates’ wines, including Amarone and Ripasso. A delicious lunch of traditional dishes will also be arranged. You will be taken back to your hotel at the end of the day.
For those booking the four day break, your driver/guide will return on the morning of day three, this time to take you on a half day tour of the Soave wine producing area. Soave is possibly the most famous Italian white wine, predominantly made from Garganega grapes. Soave wines are known for being light bodied and crisp, with orchard fruit (peach, apple, pear) aromas supported by notes of apricot, melon, citrus zest and sweet marjoram.
You will be taken to a local Soave winery, where you will enjoy a guided tour of the estate followed by tastings of their wines. As well as telling you all about the wine and wine making process of this production area, your guide will drive you through scenic countryside roads and picturesque villages. You will also be taken to the medieval hamlet of Soave and its breath-taking castle.
You will be taken back to your hotel after the tour. The afternoon and evening will then be free for you do to as you please. You may wish to unwind in the hotel’s superb spa or take a dip in the outdoor pool. Alternatively, the lovely terrace is perfect to enjoy an aperitif. As always, we would be delighted to reserve you a table for dinner if required.
